RAJA AMPAT

Raja Ampat located on the northwestern tip of the Bird’s Head Peninsula in West Papua extends over 40000 square kilometers of land and sea, which makes it home to Indonesia’s largest national marine park, Cenderawasih Bay.

Raja Ampat, which is relatively placid from disturbance of humans and remains extremely remote, is an archipelago comprising 1500 small islands that surround the four major islands of the area : Misool, Salawati, Batanta, and Waigeo referred to the meaning of Raja Ampat that is "Four Kings" as it is made up of those four main islands.

This Raja Ampat located on the northwestern tip of the Bird's Head Peninsula in West Papua is a new regency separate from Sorong Regency in 2004. Raja Ampat extends over 40000 square kilometers of land and sea, which makes it home to Indonesia's largest national marine park, Cenderawasih Bay.

Decorated with blue waters, steep jungle covered limestone islands, stunning white sand beaches, hidden lagoons, and dense mangrove forests, make the beauty of Raja Ampat undeniable. Its extraordinary sea holds the diversity of species and dive sites. Raja Ampat is recognised as an area of the coral triangle which has the most bio-diverse marine ecosystem in the world with 1,200 species of fish including legendary Manta, 530 species of snails, 6 of the world’s 7 species of sea turtle, 550 species of hard and soft coral, and much more. This is partly due to its location between the Pacific and Indian Ocean, where marine life is shared between the two oceans. In addition to its extraordinary biodiversity, the dive sites provides tremendous beauty regarding the marine landscapes. You can visit the dive sites featuring hard corals, black sand, caves, shallow reefs, mangroves, sea grass beds or white sands. A true paradise fo those who like to do a scuba diving or snorkeling.

In the North / Central region of the park, the best diving sites are:

We are offering the best time to dive in Raja Ampat on December to April with such information:

  • Air temperature      : 27-32 degrees Celsius
  • Visibility                  : 15-30 meters

  • Level                      : intermediate to advanced

How to get to Sorong (SOQ)

Raja Ampat trips start and finish in Sorong, West Papua, we will be there to meet you at Sorong Airport (SOQ) and transport you to your liveaboard adventure.

1. International flights: Singapore – Jakarta (CGK) – Sorong (SOQ).

There are many flights directly from Singapore to Jakarta, and the best flight from Jakarta to Sorong are by using Batik Air or Garuda Indonesia.

  • Garuda Indonesia will offer direct flights from Jakarta to Sorong with flights GA 682 (ETD Jakarta 00:20 / ETA 06:35 Sorong)
  • Batik Air will offer direct flights from Jakarta to Sorong with flights ID-7797 (ETD Jakarta 00:30 / ETA 06:30 Sorong)
